ISO 29993:2017-08 Learning services outside formal education - Service requirements

Today, people acquire new skills and knowledge throughout their professional and private lives. As a result of the need to establish internationally accepted requirements for learning services (such as retraining, a learning course, a further education course, etc.), in 2013 a corresponding standardization proposal was developed in ISO/TC 232, in which the DeuZert CEO Mr. Heene is an active member and expert.

With the release of this standard in August 2017, a new standard has been created that has never been seen before. To classify as a pure service standard (or product standard), it is internationally received with great interest. Especially in the Middle and Far East (UAE, Japan) they had waited eagerly.

It is expected that this standard will be applied if the focus is on the high quality of a specific learning service - and not on the organization of the learning service provider. In the learner's perspective, the learning service he uses is more likely than the organization that provides it.

DeuZert® is able to carry out a value-adding, sustainable and accepted certification for your special learning service with the highest level of personal competence from the responsible ISO standardization committee TC 232.

We also certify "ISO 29993 Education Manager (International)".

The DeuZert® certificate according ISO 29993:2017 is an effective and confidence-building instrument for demonstrating internationally accepted quality of learning services at the highest level.

Our experience flow permanently into our efficient certification process, so that an optimal preparation for certification and a quick certification decision - usually within 1-2 weeks - is ensured.

The procedure of the DeuZert® certification provides:

  1. Offer based on a standardized questionnaire
  2. Mandating the certification
  3. Optional formal pre-check of the learning service
  4. Planning the certification audit
  5. Check of the learning service documentation
  6. On-site audit with final audit report
  7. Decision on certification in the DeuZert® Certification Committee
  8. Certificate issue for three years
  9. two calendar-year surveillance audits from the following year
  10. Certification of changes [on request]

Additional information

14 June 2019: DeuZert has certified four training courses of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) according ISO 29993:2017. We are happy about the great trust in our certification service.

This standard is intended to apply to all forms of learning services that are not recognized as formal education systems, such as elementary, intermediate or higher education. These are all forms of lifelong learning, such as vocational training or in-company training. Learning can be classroom-based, taught through technology, or a mixture of both.

ISO 29993:2017 is also beneficial for learners (and/ or their sponsors). The standard recognizes the importance of the learner's informed decision on the use of learning services by establishing requirements for the information to be provided to the learners (and/ or their sponsors). Compliance with ISO 29993: 2017 can help learners to choose learning services that meet their goals and purposes.

ISO 29993: 2017 appeared in the education sector-specific ISO 2999x series of standards alongside the

  • ISO 29990:2010 Learning Services for non-formal education and training – basic requirements for service providers (withdrawn)
  • ISO 29991:2020 Language learning services outside formal education - Requirements
